Notes:
ARGUS 4 REVISION 13 patch : Minor corrections and adjustments of the program means, that from time to time new revisions of the program will appear. Your current revision number is visible on the programs titlebar just after "Argus 4.0". To see what is changed in the different revisions, click here:
A revision like this can be downloaded by clicking the link and select "open" from the download menu. The Argus program must be closed while you install the upgrade.
The installation is automatic, but will ask you if you wish to install in the default C:\ARGUS4 folder, which is where Argus is normally installed. So just click "next" unless you specifically know, that you last time installed Argus 4 in a different folder. This installation is just a patch replacing the "engine" of the program. It will not change your data or preferences.
If you are'nt sure, where your previous installation of Argus was placed, try clicking the EE-icon on your windows desktop with the right-mouse-button, and select "properties". This will show you the path to where Argus is placed in the file-tree.
When successfully installed, you can then open the program and check the title bar to assure, that in now says revision 13.
Argus 3 (for existing users) If you are already using Argus 3 and need a replacement or an upgrade, you can use this download. This way you can get a complete fresh installation. You do risk to overwrite your existing data, even if the installer will ask you before doing so. When installed, you will need to insert your personal registration data, which you received when you originally purchased the program. If you have lost this data, send us an email for a replacement.
Argus 3 revision 28 patch This is a simpler upgrade (revision 28) which just patches your existing version with a new kernel, and you will not risk your data. If you are in doubt, you should use this first.
You must have an existing installation of ARGUS 3.1 installed to be able to use the downloadable upgrade.
To upgrade, just click the link above: "revision28 patch install". The download dialog will then ask you if you want to open or save on disk. The easiest is just to open. Dependant on your internet connection, this will take up to a few minutes. When opened, a confirmation popup will ask you if it is OK to install to C:\ARGUS. Unless you specifically have installed Argus elsewhere, just click OK. The installation itself takes only a few seconds, after you have confirmed to the operating system, that you REALLY wants to run this file.
Now start your Argus as usual and make sure, that the title bar shows PCA ARGUS 3.1-28 followed by your serial number and license name
Updating the PCA.EXE from a revision before 21 (you can see the rev.no in the Argus Help | about-box) will need an additional user number for the registration, before the program will run properly. If the program after a minute or so produces a "control code wrong" message, you need a new user ID. Just write us an email quoting your current info box information, especially: User name, Serial number and "Features" list. We will then provide the control code needed, which you just need to enter into the info-box.
Swiss Ephemeris is an ultra-precise planetary positions engine, which is integrated in Argus. There is, however an expanded table-based version, which you may download here. It takes up approx 35 Mbytes of your harddisk. The two scripts: ephgenx and ephgeny, bundled with Argus 4.2, which calculate tables for some of the new planets and a few asteroids, Lilith etc, will need the expanded Swiss Ephemeris to be installed.
The advantages are:Unless you need the extra planet table calculations or the extra precision, Argus will run okay and still very precise without the expanded ephemeris.
The installation will propose to place the Swiss Ephemeris in the folder C:\SWEPH. If Argus is also installed on the C: drive it will look for Swiss Ephemeris there.

The handbook was originally written for the DOS version, but has been updated to cover the windows features added with Argus. The first part is general information with examples, and the second part is a complete library function reference also with examples.
